When bullets hit an object, they can go through it, be absorbed by it, or be deflected by it. Thus, when a bullet hits a steel target or plate, the projectile breaks up and creates fragmentation.
This fragmentation typically travels perpendicular to the surface of raw steel but can be captured or deflected away from the wearer by our heavy-duty polyurea coating. Most deflected fragments are contained by the 500D nylon of the plate carrier.

Made from a close-fitting Durastretch material that fits snugly around our Rifle Plate, the Frag Sleeve contains a p-aramid (the same material used to make soft body armor) insert at the top of the pocket to capture bullet fragmentation*.
Tests conducted by an NIJ Approved Testing Laboratory showed the Frag Sleeve is an effective way to mitigate bullet fragmentation. The Frag Sleeve weighs less than 4 ounces each.
