Armor is useless if you don’t have it with you. And while elaborate protective setups can be fitting for special missions, some armor should always be conveniently at hand. That’s why we designed the Freeman loadout to be small enough that you can easily keep it with you in your car or backpack, while still being capable of protecting you from most threats you’re likely to face.
The Freeman Carrier (specifications below) is made of laser-cut laminated Cordura® nylon: It is made to accommodate up to 3 magazine pouches through the PALS channels, features low-profile Hypalon shoulder straps for nimble movement (including the ability to shoulder your rifle), and has rugged side-buckles made in the United States. It also has front and back Velcro panels and Velcro attachment points for pontoon pads.
The accompanying 9x9 Octagonal Level III Steel Plates (specifications below) are designed to stay true to the principle of convenient armor while still not compromising protection. As such, these plates are capable of stopping all pistol rounds and most rifle rounds, tested to stop 7.62x51 M80 NATO Ball (.308 Winchester) and special threat tested to stop 5.56mm M855/SS109 (Green Tip), both at a velocity of 2,780 FPS. These results are confirmed by independent tests done in accordance with NIJ 0101.06 threat levels through Oregon Ballistics (OBL), and H.P. White Laboratories.
Each plate weighs about 5 lbs, with a total weight with the carrier of 10.54 pounds. Offering great value for a modest price, the Freeman is perfect to keep with you in your car or office, or as the main setup for a second member of the family.
